The Austin 1100 caused Basil nothing but trouble, e.g. slow engine, jammed horn.
When the car broke down in Mentmore Close, Basil lost his temper and thrashed it with a branch.
Another time, Basil crashed the Austin 1100 into the lobby. The car had to be towed away for expensive repairs.
On 18th September 2006, Prunella Scales officially reopened the Gleneagles Hotel in Torquay in a buffed up replica of the Fawlty car. It was also her first ever visit to the premises.
In 2013 the Austin 1100 celebrated its golden jubilee.
